This Child Of Mine...

This child of mine,

Outside he looks fine...

Two ears, two eyes and a nose,

And his ten pretty toes.

Ten fingers and nails,

But in pointing...he fails.

And if you look closely, youíll see,

That heís not looking at me.

Blank stares go right through,

As Iím looking at you.

 And alone he will play,

Day after day...after day.

The few words heíll utter

Make no sense to his mother.

 As reality sets in,

My heartís breaking within.

ďAutism spectrum disorderĒ

A ďlabelĒ Ė like any other.

 But what does it mean,

When my foe is unseen?

They just donít understand,

Across this great land.

 Normal foods act as dope,

As more parents lose hope.

And doctors arenít shown,

How leaky gutís grown.

 Oh, how can it be,

That all fail to see?

Whatís wrong with my child-

What makes him so wild!

Some say: ďGive him a pill,

And heíll sit nice and still...Ē

But, what good would it do?

Iíd forever lose you!

 Yes -  I understand!

And Iíll take your hand.

Youíll leave your shell,

And, again, youíll be well.

 Your battle Ė Iíll fight

With all my might!

And Iíll make them see,

For youíre precious to me!

This child of mine...

Outside he looks fine...
